Where To Find the Excel File Backup Location To Retrieve Prior Files

-

Did you know that 750 million people are using Excel?

So you have lost some critical files from your Excel files? What a shame!

Only a few programs come equipped with a data recovery tool–especially one like Excel. Data loss is an unfortunate side effect of any program like Excel. While most data you create is not lost forever, you may need proper backup.

Read below to recover lost data from your Excel file backup location.

Use Windows Search

To find the Excel file backup location to retrieve prior files using Windows Search, go to the Start menu, type in File Explorer, and click ‘Create a backup’ under the AutoSave tab in the Microsoft Office Excel Options window.

It will open the File Backup Location dialog box. Here, you can select the preferred file location and click OK. The site is the default folder where your Excel applications save file backups.

You can also try typing ‘%appdata%’ in the Windows Search and selecting the latest version of the Excel backup folder. It will open the File Backup Location, and you can manually browse for the file backups.

Try typing ‘*.xls or *.xlsx filetype: backup’ in the Windows Search bar or read the Excel file in c# to find any prior files that may have been saved as a backup.

Check Window File History

If you are looking for a past version of a Microsoft Excel file and need to retrieve it from Windows file history, there are several ways. In Windows 10, you can search for “file history” in the Start Menu to restore an Excel file.

Once inside the window, you’ll see where the current files are saved (the “Save location”). Here, you’ll find the location of the backup folder. This folder should contain all previous versions of your Excel file.

In addition, you may need to adjust the recovery settings to save the older Excel files. To do this, open the “History” tab and select your preferred locations. Once the settings are adjusted, you can access the lost Excel files in the backup folder.

Remember that future saved files will take precedence over older ones, so only retrieve the necessary ones.

Explore Temp Folder

If you want to explore the Temp folder to retrieve unsaved Excel files, the location of the Excel file backup usually varies depending on your operating system. Generally, the backup location is in the Documents and Settings folder of the user whose account is used to operate the Microsoft Office programs.

If this folder isn’t available, you can search the Temp folder in the C:\ drive. To search, type in the name of the Excel file you are looking for in the search bar in the top right corner of the folder page. It will compile a list of any files with the same title.

Check Your Excel File Backup Location

To save yourself from having to search for old files, it’s a good idea to back up your Excel files regularly. The Excel File Backup Location is where your system is set up to save files, but you can always customize this location to meet your needs. Be sure to back up your files before it’s too late – set up your backup destination today!
