  • Enter the Advanced Installer app and then you want to create a new project. Choose Updates, and there you can choose Patch.  Make sure that you save the project.
  • Now you will need to create the target and upgrade images. You can switch to Images and then press New Updated toolbar, and then pick the desired MSI file. You can browse to where you stored the initial version and then pick the new version. 
  • That will ensure you have a target and upgraded image. You need to press the Build toolbar button and then you can see the build evolution. Wait until the process is finished, and press Run.
  • Enter the Run dialog and see if the setup wizard appears. That way, you can test and see if your MSP file is working. 

Is it necessary to use MSP files?

Yes, MSP is a very useful format if you want to perform quick updates or bug fixes. Most of the time, you don’t have to fully reinstall an app just to deploy a hotfix. That’s where MSP stands out, because it gives you the means to quickly patch everything, while ensuring that the entire process is very fast and convenient.

Deleting MSP files after using them can be an option, since patch files are known for occupying a lot of space. With that in mind, you also want to avoid deleting these manually, because it can have a negative impact on the Windows Installer Cache.
