Brow Lift Procedures – Understanding the Different Types of Brow Lift Procedures

-

Once you decide to undergo a brow lift, choosing the technique best suited to your goals is important. Your surgeon will explain the options available and help you select a procedure that will meet your expectations for a youthful, refreshed look.

The coronal brow lift uses one long incision from ear to ear across the top of the forehead. This is a classic approach that offers a dramatic change.

Coronal Brow Lift

The coronal brow lift is the oldest and most traditional brow lift technique. It involves a single incision across the forehead from ear to ear. This allows the surgeon to see the underlying muscle and tissues for significant adjustments without damaging hair follicles. It produces some scarring, but it should be hidden within the hairline.

The results of a coronal brow lift are immediately visible and permanent, restoring a youthful shape to the forehead and eyebrow area and improving the appearance of the eyes. It also reduces heaviness and sagging in the upper eyelids. It can also be paired with a facelift to rejuvenate the entire top third of the facial appearance thoroughly.

A less active form of surgery created to treat the outside one-third of the brow is a temporal brow lift, sometimes referred to as a lateral brow lift. It can help reduce the heaviness and sagging in this area that commonly occurs as we age, and it’s often performed along with an upper eyelid surgery called a blepharoplasty.

The direct brow lift procedure is used to correct a heavy brow or sagging in the upper eyelids, and it’s most commonly used in men who don’t benefit from a facelift but need significant brow elevation. This minimally invasive technique involves bilateral elliptical incisions directly above the brows.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

An endoscopic brow lift (also called a forehead lift) is an aesthetic surgical procedure designed to correct the loss of soft tissue elasticity in the upper third of the face due to aging, genetics and sun damage. It is often performed with a facelift and eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to create a more youthful, refreshed appearance.

This procedure involves multiple small incisions hidden in the hairline, allowing Dr. Amato to access and release the forehead muscles. He then tightens and repositions the muscles using self-dissolving sutures and removes any excess skin weighing down the eyebrows to help them achieve a more arched and youthful shape.

In contrast to the classic brow lift or coronal lift, which involves a single continuous incision from ear to ear across the top of the forehead, the endoscopic technique offers a much faster recovery. This is because the incisions are smaller, which minimizes bruising and swelling.

An endoscopic brow lift can be performed alone or with other facial cosmetic procedures, such as a facelift, eyelid surgery and laser skin resurfacing. An ideal candidate for this type of brow lift has significant wrinkles on the forehead and a low or heavy brow. The resulting elevated and more youthful brow and forehead shape helps to balance and enhance the other features of the face, giving it a refreshed and alert look.

Temporal Brow Lift

The temporal brow lift is the most minimally invasive of all the brow lifting techniques. This method is used to improve lateral hooding of the eyes and eyebrow arch and can be combined with upper eyelid surgery to open the eyes’ appearance further. This technique uses two small incisions in the temple area so that scars will be virtually undetectable after healing. It is a wonderful option for people who wish to avoid a full forehead lift since it could be too intrusive for what they require.

The top of the skull is incised continuously from ear to ear during the classic lift, also known as the coronal brow lift. Some individuals may feel discomfort and numbness from the incision’s back after this treatment. It is an excellent alternative for those who want to increase their hairline but have tiny foreheads.

During your consultation, your doctor will discuss your goals and determine which brow lift technique is best for you. This will help him design a personalized treatment plan to deliver your desired results. The kind and degree of treatment needed will determine the price of your brow lift. A more precise cost estimate will be given to you following your initial appointment. Although every person’s recovery is unique, most patients have bruising and swelling for roughly ten days. Within two weeks, they are usually able to resume their regular schedule.

Trans-Forehead Approach

High hairlines are a common feature of the male face. Females, however, often have a rounded, lower forehead. For this reason, scalp advancement is an effective procedure for feminizing the upper third of the face. This technique can be combined with a brow lift and frontal bossing reduction (frontal cranioplasty) to create a complete facial feminization package.

Feminization surgery is commonly performed on male-to-female transgender patients and gender-nonconforming people who wish to soften masculine features and obtain a more feminine appearance. It could be a component of a complete strategy that also involves body sculpting and nose surgery.

A 27-year-old male-to-female patient presented with a protruding frontal sinus ridge, a dorsal hump, a right nasal septum deviation, and a nasal asymmetry. In addition, her lateral cephalogram showed a thick anterior table of the frontal sinus. She underwent an endoscopic brow lift and a frontal sinus reduction.

The lowered brow and reduced lateral sinus table significantly improved the appearance of her nose. This combination of procedures complemented her other cosmetic work and allowed her to transition from male to female without further complications.
